looking to travel to australia

heyy im 20 year old female from Glasgow Scotland looking to travel to Australia this year 2012 but have no one who is willing to leave and come with me im looking to get a years visa and travel too wherever have no plans set in stone just yet as i do not fancy goin alone if anyone has any ideas would be great to hear you advice

Well, you could look for a travel companion by posting on the here (I see you've already been replying there). But even if you don't find anyone to really travel together with, I can from personal experience tell you that it's really not that bad going by yourself. You'll meet plenty of people in the same boat once you're actually in Australia (especially in Sydney, hostels will be overflowing with fellow backpackers fresh off the plane), but travelling by yourself and setting your own itinerary is also a very rewarding experience, and a kind of freedom I wouldn't give up too soon.
By yourself, you can really follow your whims with regard to what to do and where to go. Take time off from seeing things whenever you need it (one of the most important and most frequently neglected part of successfully travelling for a long time), and follow the wind on a whim to see where it'll take you, ending up in places you'd never suspected, and doing only the things you really want to. And whenever you need them, there'll still be a whole bunch of fellow backpackers sitting in the lounge of your hostel, quite willing to strike up a conversation.

Hey!

I planning to go in September and hoping to make friends and travel buddys before i go so get in touch :D
xx

Danielle, I'm also going solo - but leaving in 4 weeks time, from East Kilbride...but flying from London to Thailand first. Booked the £5 megabus from Buchanan Bus Station, it'll probably be torture!

Had mates saying they'd come, but it soon transpired that some wouldn't go through with it and an other would take a helluva lot longer saving than I was going to wait.
Its pretty daunting going alone, but stick around on this and you'll see a very high percentage of folk are going it alone.

One advantage I think it'd give is you can get up and go wherever you want, when you want - rather than trying to please everyone in a group!

i'm going to australia this year alone. quite nervous but i've read so many times, and been told by mates who've gone, that so many people go alone and its easy to meet people so try not to worry too much about that

Hey Danielle, I'm also going on my own in august im equally excited and shitting it but like the others said there seems to be loads of people going on their own. Where are you thinking of flying into?

I'm thinking of heading out to Oz this August on my own and really nervous too!!! Really gutted though as I'm too old to apply for a year visa so the maximum I can do is 3 months on a holiday visa Will need to save a heap of money to survive for 3 months without working but I heard there's cash in habd jobs out there if anyone has any advise on this?!

hey danielle, im from glasgow aswell, i just got to perth in australia 2 weeks ago.. im lucky i knew people here tho for somwhere to stay but heading to melbourne next week on my own.
