yes they havea hop on hop off bus i didnt use it when i was there tho,and they have tours of the canals i enjoyed that and i done a walking tour of the redlight district also i highly recomend it!
Hi there, yes there is a hop on, hop off bus, you can catch this at Centraal Station and other locations, I've never used the bus, so can't tell you what it is like. Here is the website which gives you the timetables and prices http://www.citysightseeingamsterdam.nl/
There are quite a few canal tours and a couple within walking distance of Centraal Station, so you cannot miss them! Some offer deals such as museum/gallery admission or wine and cheese with your tour.

I am going to take your advise and take the walking tour, the area looks like something you have to do walking, do you remember how long the tour was?
yeah walking tour is good lots of information regarding the red light district. tour was 90 minutes and was only about 12 euro from memory
I would recommend the "NEW EUROPE" Free walking tour. http://www.neweuropetours.eu/
They are free, and great. Usually younger crowds, great place to meet people. That tour goes through the RLD among other things in the city centre. I have taken these tours in several cities and I recommend them to everybody.
I am personally not a fan of "hop on hop off" busses, I leave those for my grandparents!

I found the web site and am going to book.
I like the idea of tipping for a tour, rather than paying for a so-so one and still being expected to tip also.
But I have also taken hop-on-hop-off and they cover a lot of territory in a short time, so they have there positives, especially as this is a one day stop over.
