6 weeks in Europe with children for Summer 2013

I am fortunate to have the flexibility with my business that I can arrange to take about 6 weeks off in the summer of 2013. My wife says I am crazy, many of you will agree with her, but I would like to at least research the options for spending this time with my family (kids will be ages 11, 6 and 3 at the time of travel) in Europe. Because we can spend such a larger amount of time I dont think it will be hectic travelling with 3 children as it would if we only had a week or so. My wife and I have visited London and Paris recently and would like to include these areas again. Through a connection I already have access to accommodations for about 4 nights in Paris.

There are really a lot cities to choose from in Europe. Personally one of my favorite city in Europe is Barcelona as it has something for everyone in store. There are a lot of museums, beautiful parks and on top of that it´s located next to the see with beautiful beaches. And on the way to Barcelona, you could make a stop in the south of France to enjoy the beauty of the french "Provence".

BTW, I don´t agree with your wife. You are not crazy at all. I personally think that travelling is one of the most joyful and enriching experiences. When I was a kid, my parents took me to many places and it really helped me opening my eyes and get open minded.

Hi!
I will be also travelling around Europe for 6 weeks in summer 2013 with my child! It will be just me and my 4 year old coming from Australia. I am fortunate I will be staying with friends for the most part but still, this is going to be a massive experience to do on my own with a child! We are mainly staying in Finland where i have taken her before for a much shorter trip. Finland is great for travelling with young kids as they offer free inner city transport when travelling with a child in a pram (if your 3 year old will have a stroller mum and him/her will be free) We are also doing a cruise from Sweden to Finland which my friend over there say is very child friendly and fun for kids and also Iceland where i will be visiting for a few days i researched is meant to be one of the safest places for children in the world!

Nobody has responded for a quite long time here, but I still wanted to respond, because til the summer 2013 there is still a plenty of time! First of all I wanted to say to the last commenter here. Finland is definitely a nice country, but a few things that you should know before you go there, are that during the summertime there is an enormous amount of mosquitos and also it is normally not hot there during the summertime (which actually with a little child may be pretty great). If you wish to know more about those two countries (Finland and Sweden) or if you have some questions, feel free to ask! I have travelled in those countries a lot.

But to the one, who asked first! There are a lot of nice places in Europe. I would suggest the Atlantic coast of France, starting with Bretagne, Normandy and finishing with Bordeaux, Biarritz, it is amazing!!! It is really, really beautiful there! Maybe you want to discover also some Italy? Tuscany, Florence, Venice, Milan - beautiful places, beautiful cities! Just keep in mind that during the summer time it gets really, really hot there, so maybe it is not the best place to go with the children. And if you want then you can go to Austria (to Vienna, to Salzburg) , Czech Republic (to Prague, to Karlovy Vary) or to Switzerland (attention, Switzerland is not in the European Union!!!) - all really beautiful and interesting places. If you have any questions or if you want more information, I would be more than happy to answer and help you!
