Which is one of the most memorable train journeys that you recollect?
Erzurum to Istanbul: about 36 hours in a nice coupé, great food, friendly people and some of the most fantastic landscapes ever. It takes twice as long as the bus, but would choose it again as the best alternative!
Good second one is the 50 cent train trip from Aleppo to Latakia in Syria. Through gorges, tunnels.
I guess the top 3 would be completed with two equally good trips: Odessa to Chisinau through Transdjestria, that self-proclaimed state in Moldovia, and the trip from Tirana to Durres in Albania: just an hour in an old Vienna metro along 5 metres wide and 1 metre high garbage (that was 2004 though, might be clean now).
Cheers

The jungle train in Malaysia. Lovely scenery and a great experience.
I did my worst train trip in Syria; from Kamishli to Damascus. I never sit during night because some another people sitted in seat.
I've done some longer train trips, including the Trans-Siberian and a train trip from Toronto to Vancouver. Those were unforgettable. Amazing scenery, and I met some great people along the way.
My worst train experiences have all been shorter trips. One time, I bought a ticket from Beijing to Taiyuan (an 11 hour overnight trip). Beds were sold out. So I bought a ticket for a seat (or so I thought). Only when I got on the train did I realize it was a "standing only" ticket. No seat. Fortunately, a Chinese family took pity on me, and shared part of their bench seat with me. But after a few hours a very old lady sat down on the floor, in the aisle beside me, and I gave up my seat for her. So I was back to standing again...
Oh that is great.Even I love nature. As I reside in India my day to day travel is by train.I enjoy allot traveling by train and like to know about Indian trains -snip-
@ madpoet It seems You are a very nice and whole heart ed person.Even I give my seat to people who need it more than me. -snip-
