10 days from San Diego to SF

Hi All, I would like some help to plan my short visit to San Diego (arriving August 17 at noon and planning to arrive LA by late afternoon August 18) and transportation to LA? It is a very short visit, so what part of San Diego should I book a hostel that it is accesible to all public transportation?
Also, I would like to visit La Joya and Laguna Beach, but I am not sure how. Should I do this on my way to LA? I do know that I do not want to drive so, either train or bus would be the choice.

It is the first time I am traveling by my self so I am overwhelmed. Any ideas?

You should not rush from SD to LA - why, because San Diego is FAR FAR NICER than anything in LA! La Jolla is part of SD City - you can rent a bike and I would stay in the beach area (Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach or Coronado). La Jolla is the next beach north of Pacific Beach. I'm not sure you can get to Laguna by public transport - this is the land of the automobile (you are really disabled in California without it!) Yosemite will be EXTREMELY CROWDED in summer - join the queue!

how far is Sand Diego to SF??... can anyone tell me ??... thanks

SD to SF is roughly 500+ miles - a very long and boring drive on Interstate 5 (1 day), but quite a pleasant drive if you hug the coast on Routes 101 and 1, over a 2 or 3 day period.

Yes, San Diego is so beautiful. There are many amazing beaches in between San Diego and LA. If you will be in LA for a short time, the Hollywood Walk of Fame is awesome and the Paramount Pictures Studio Tour (I think you need to make reservations in advance)
