I was recently in Papua New Guinea and traveled over the Louisiades Archipelago. I cannot find any of those locations (not even entire islands) when I try to update my map.

You can enter other locations. To get started, enter a large place nearby - then you can drag the marker to wherever you want. In the edit section on the left you can also enter the exact coordinates and rename it to whatever you want to name it to.
