OZ Jan2013

Hey peeps,

Also found this site which has reccommendations for Visa plus Starter Packs

https://www.visafirst.com/en/australia_working_holiday_visa_subclass_417_application_form.asp

Starter Pack 1: £269.98

Working Holiday Visa for 1 year
SIM Card with AU$10 Credit
Opening a Bank Account
TaxSaver Pack (plus TFN set up)

The best place to get the working holiday visa for Australia is direct (DIAC = Australian immigration). Otherwise you're paying someone else to do the same, and will likely end up paying more for the visa than you need to.

Forgot to mention, the visa currently costs AU$270, which is £180. Depends if you think paying an extra £90 is worth a $10 sim card, a bank account (which are very straightforward to open in Australia), and a "taxsaver pack". TFNs are also easy to apply for online once in the country.

Ahh ok! Thanks for that.. Obviously things get passed on by different people :-)!

I suppose 90 does seem alot.. But at least it's all done for you.

Have you been to oz on a WHV!?

Hey, I'm heading to oz feb 2013, and it's my frost one and like many other people haven't got a clue where to start from and where to go haha but I got my working holiday visa and gonna start saving up about 4grand and just book the ticket and go, but would be good if get to know few people before leaving home

That seems to be the trend! Get ur visa save 4 grand! Jet off and meet new people!

I shall be there before then.

Explored some of Australia and then into some work!

It's good that people can chat about it, gives a clearer picture on the journey ahead :-)

Yes, the first time I came to Australia I was here on a WHV from the UK. A few years after that I met an Australian in the UK, got married and now live in Australia!

The £90 seems to me to be quite a lot for what is done though - so easy to open a bank account and get a TFN. Within 6 weeks of arriving in Australia all you need to show to a bank for ID to open an account is your passport. The Tax File Number is an . Neither of those cost anything, so why pay someone else to do them? Other than that you get a $10 sim card, which you could easily get once here - so to me from what you've listed it looks like £90 for a $10 (or £6-£7) sim card.

Oh excellent! Never looked backed then!? Hopefully the same will happen to me!

Brilliant that you have given me this advice... I might as well just pay for my visa and then sort bank n tax out myself!?

Any suggestion for flight to Sydney? And do we have to have a future ticket?? Thanks
