Hi guys,
RTW tickets
or a number of online companies. Shop around till you get the best price for your itinerary.
If coming from the UK, that stop over in LA will cost you plenty. RTW flights are far cheaper if you go via Asia. A flight to NZ can be two days so best to break it somewhere on the way out.
You can have overland sections of your trip and the only real rule is that you must travel in one direction so side trips and going backwards you book as separate flights.
Sydney is very expensive over Christmas and the New Year, even in hostels. Some will be booked up already for the NY fireworks.
Ask how much the flights will be with Fiji and without Fiji and then decide if it is worth it?
Australia is BIG. You can do it by bus if you don't mind spending a very long time on buses. Flights aren't too badly priced if booked early.
Lots and lots and lots to see in Asia. Thailand is a travel hub so once there you can book side trips elsewhere. Khao San Road in Bangkok has a number of good travel agents who will help you, and Air Asia (a budget airline) has a small office across the road, a few doors from Burger King.
Accommodation: hostelbookers, hostelworld, hotels.com, travellerspoint, etc. Also asiarooms in Asia.
In your place I would have booked the lot a few months ago. Time is short so book something in the next few weeks. Once your main flights are booked you can then see about side flights, accommodation and so on. And maybe ask more questions.
Consider taking out insurance. It is not too expensive and if something very bad goes wrong, you could end up having to remortgage your house to get home.
As to money:

.
Look into multi-destination tickets rather than just RTW tickets for your flights. As Cyberia mentioned, you're slightly limited with RTW tickets because you have to keep flying in the same direction.
With multi-destination tickets the only rule is that you must have 3 or more destinations. They also allow for overland segments.
Yea we know we have left it late in booking, thats why we are paniking. Hopefully we can get it all sorted in time. Thank you for yor advice
If you go into a travel agent (maybe STA) and tell them exactly where you want to go they will map out the best/cheapest way to do this. Myself and my friend did a rtw trip a couple of years ago and we flew into Bangkok, travelled around SEA for a while then flew into Melbourne, travelled our way up the east coast to Cairns where we caught our next flight to Auckland, travelled around NZ and flew out of Christchurch to Fiji, then from there to San Fran (connecting in LA) and from there home. So it's definately possible to include Fiji in your trip...maybe fly from LA to there as there are direct flights.
We rented a car that was equipped with camping gear for travelling up the Australian coast. It was good but sometimes it could be quite lonely because the other people camping were older or familys.
Don't panic, many people head off at the last minute so just maybe go into a travel agent and have a chat, you don't have to book there but at least get an idea of what the best plan is.
Enjoy
