Just curious. How far ahead did people book their hike? What company did you have success with?
Depends on what time of the year you go. For the May - September high season, the classic inca trail sells out about 3-4 months in advance - a month or two before or after that, most days still sell out about a month in advance, but if you're flexible you might be able to find something on short notice.
As for who to go with: pick one of the companies with a smilie (and ideally a checkmark) from . I personally went with United Mice, which had perfect service on the trail itself (the guide really knew his business), but lousy communication beforehand.
i think you mean the Inca Trail to MP? You have to book it around 3 months in advance someboday told me.
but if you want other treks, also to MP, than you can just book a few weeks before.
All treks are worth going, I spend half year in Peru and I did both, salkantay and inca trail, with a company named Dos Manos and it was amazing... really good! they are located directly in Cusco at the calle suecia. So just get on their homepage and check their treks out...
Saludos
Hi Pauline R,
Can i ask how much you spent on these trips? How much should i be looking at for a 4 day 3 night Inca trail trip in November this year? The site of Dos Manos doesn't seem to have prices, unless you send them your info.
Thanks

Here are some helpful tips I found at the bottom of this post: http://www.traveljunkiejulia.com/how-to-hike-peru%E2%80%99s-inca-trail/#more-215
"Since independent camping along the Inca Trail isn’t allowed, travelers must book a tour with a certified agency. There are many local tour operators located in the quaint city of Cuzco. An all-inclusive four-day group treks generally includes: transportation to and from Cuzco, trail fees, camping equipment (tent and sleeping mat), porter services, food and a guided tour of Machu Picchu. Be sure to choose a responsible tour operator. Incatrailperu.com warns that, “if you pay under US$350 for a 4 day group Inca Trail trek it is very unlikely that porter welfare is high on the company’s concerns. When you book with a company let them know that the treatment the porters receive is important to you.”
Sleeping bags, backpacks, ponchos and other camping gear can be rented for only a few dollars a day near the Plaza De Armas in Cuzco.
Book your trip early! The best but busiest time to hike the Inca Trail is during high season (April-October), when the weather is dry. The trail is closed the month of February for renovations. If the Inca Trail is fully booked or if you crave off-the-beaten-track exploration, there are alternative trails in the area that can be hiked independently. For more information, check out http://www.incatrailperu.com/"
You'll have to speak a little spanish to understand it, but here is a link of the booking system of the inka trail: http://nahuidev.inc-cusco.gob.pe/ You can see on which dates you can go and which are already full. I just checked it and now the trail is full until the 9th of Octobre.
A normal price for the trail is $ 350 dollars. I live in Cusco and sometimes book the trail for friends and I always pay $ 350. If you pay less, watch out for the quality. If you pay more, whatever excuses they give you about quality, service or whatever, you pay too much...

We went with Peru Treks and Adventure. They were absolutely fantastic. Guides (two) very informative, spoke excellent english, food totally suberb and plentiful porters carried what seemed the right amount (20kg) compare to some other companies, they have good gear shoes, clothing etc.... I didn't feel too good with altitude, despite spent plenty of time in Lake Titicaca and Cusco before hand. The guides took great care and never once rushed me, despite I was one of the last trekkers. Highly highly recommended company. Totally once in a lifetime experience.
