I will be heading into New York City this coming month, but would like to go outside of New York City. I will be renting a car so can drive to other places. What places outside NYC should I see? I will be in New York for 2 weeks, so should have some time to explore. Thanks!

I'm from New York City, and one of my favorite places to go hiking (it can be hard or easy, they have many paths) is Mohonk Mountain Preserve. It is about two hours north or New York City. Pretty much a straight run up the New York State Thruway.
Long Island is really nice! The Hamptons are out on the east end, about 2 hours drive from NYC, very popular in the upcoming summer months. Gorgeous beaches. Montauk is a cute old fishing town on the very end of the island.
Its a bit of a drive but when i was there i couch surfed in Buffalo with some really cool people and i loved it there!
