Hi all, i was wondering if someone could help me as i want to make sure everything is sorted for my holiday to florida in a few weeks. I shall be applying for an ESTA today. What else do i need. Whats the best way to exchange money? Someone at my work was saying i can get it all put onto a card and use the card rather than having all the money there £2500 to be changed.
Regards
James
There are prepaid debit and prepaid credit cards. What you are referring to is a prepaid debit card. For some info on these, let me direct you to the following site:
http://www.bankrate.com/finance/banking/dangers-prepaid-debit-cards.aspx
I suggest you read both the article and the comments following the article--as, in my opinion, the article is a bit misleading as it does not refer to the use of these cards as an alternative for those who may not have the time to establish credit in the US--as is your case, since you are arriving solely as a visitor to our country.
Nevertheless, the article does warn about some of the fees and extra charges that may not be obvious to a "new" user of these cards--and that is why I would suggest that you stick with a well-known bank and make sure that they do not charge an activation fee or maintenance fee, that the ATM charges are reasonable, and be sure that your account expires (meaning no future charges) once you use up all the money loaded on the card.
Enjoy your trip.
