As a guide for the last 7 years for group tours, I've met plenty of people traveling solo. The best thing you can do is contact the company first to find out the group dynamics for the departure you are interested in (how many males / females? what are their ages? how many solo travelers? any kids?). For The World Outdoors, we offer solo travel designated departures but even then you'll find in the general departures plenty of solo travelers who just preferred those trip dates.
Do you know what kind of accommodation level you're looking for? If you're a social person and want time with people, you may also want to consider doing a camping trip over an inn-based tour to give you more time socially. It also helps to avoid any single supplement costs, although if you plan in advance and are willing to share a room you can avoid the single supplement without having to camp.
Don't be worried about traveling on your own. It's a great way to meet people with many similar interests. Just be sure to ask the right questions before you book and get a feel for the group.
Group tours can be a lot of fun. Depending on how long the tour is, there will be a time where people will get on your nerves though.
Statistically, there will be a girl or two that you will find attractive which is a bonus. So have fun.
Many a times a boring and maddening journey can turn into an exciting and merry-making one, just because of the reason of being accompanied by many people. While one half of the long and boring trip is spent in getting introduced to your group; mixing with and knowing them better makes up for the other half of it.
