Ok, so here is whats going on. First off, I am 20 years old and i live in North Carolina, USA. I am planning a trip to see a "special someone" in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada for a few days. Here is my problem. I am only 20 years old, so i cant rent a car when i get there, but i have to have one, so flying is out. I was thinking about driving my car, however it is a 1600 mile trip taking about 27 hours. I have a total budget of about $1500. Any suggestions anyone? Thanks to all that can help!
Not many options then,if you have to have a car once there and you are too young to rent one lets hope the car you are going to make the drive in is fuel efficient and not a big gas guzzling SUV.1600 miles can be a nice adventure but it would be nice to get more than a 2 day layover (unintended pun) before starting the return trip,budget about 40 hours each way which includes a 6 hour nap each way, expect to be tired the whole 2 days there.
The only way i can see around this very time consuming drive is to fly there and let her drive you around in her car once you get there, or take the bus or a taxi.
PS if you dont have a passport forget the whole trip as you wont be allowed to re enter the USA.

Why would you consider the expense of renting a car if you already own one? Is it old and unreliable? There is no question that driving your own car will be the most affordable way. You may want to look into ride sharing, find someone who is taking a similar trip and hook up to share gas expenses. Oh yeah, camping is the cheapest way to lodge, obviously.
And the part about a passport is on point.
Well, you actually can rent a car if you are under 25--it just costs a lot more--and you need a credit card.
For example, Dollar Rent-A-Car rents cars to those under 25.

Avis, Hertz, and Enterprise also rent to under 25 year olds--but you will have to pay a surcharge (usually $25 extra a day). Also, I don't know if they all rent to under 21 year olds.
However, it may be that you still can't find one that has a rental spot in Winnipeg--for example, the closest Dollar rental spot to Winnipeg (that is still in Canada) is in Calgary. So you would have to fly to Calgary, then rent a car and drive 800 miles (each way) to get to Winnipeg.
This is shorter than the 1600 miles each way from North Carolina--but I doubt you would save any more considering the flight cost and the higher rental car price.
I think Hertz and Avis have rental spots in Winnipeg--but you need to check if they rent to under 21 year olds.
