Trip feedback? BANGKOK

IRFANIUM has indicated that this thread is about Bangkok

The Thais are generally a peaceful people. Patience with them, don't raise your voice if you can help it, or touch their heads.

There will be many, many tourists there when you go. I don't know what you are going to do about booking accommodation but at least have the first night booked. There is a link at the top of the page.

From the airport, if not on a middle of the night flight, go downstairs and get a train into the city, then a taxi to your accommodation from the station.

Use the Skytrain (BTS) or Subway (MRT) for getting about. Taxis are cheap but traffic is very heavy. Buses are OK once you find your way around. Buy a map (about 50 baht), and it will have bus numbers marked on roads.

Whatever food you want, you'll find it there. The town is hot, but shopping malls of which there are many are semi-air conditioned, so cooler. Do shop around as prices can vary quite a lot.

Lots of places to change money, banks, ATM's, etc.

What to do there:

Not really much nightlife outside some markets and the girlie bars. If you do pick up a girl, make sure it is from a bar and not from the street or she may walk out in the middle of the night with your valuables and you will never see her again, whereas bar girls, everyone at the bar knows them, so they dare not.

Do be careful of pick pockets in Bangkok, in crowds, on public transport, etc.

Carry your passport at all times (not a paper copy).

Quite a number of travel agents about to book tours and onward travel. A number of cheap airlines in the area, but best booked early for the cheaper prices.

Hey cyberia,

Thanks for the input !!! That should help me get thru my first few confusions and also help fvisitors too !! Well Firstly will be taking a chauffeur service as I land as I wouldn't mind spending a bit too get thru the initial hassels after which I shall let bkk take me in for a surprise obviously a safer one !! Meanwhile any other suggestions please do enlighten !!

Thnx.

I think the best of Bangkok is along the Chao Phraya River, and it's great fun to use the to get around (you can easily connect to the Skytrain). Bangkok is one huge city that I have found to be quite safe - October will be rather hot. My one complaint is that this town has entirely too many steps (they like to make pedestrians use the overpass instead of crossing at street level).
