I do not know why there are so many people now use visa on arrival. I often went to Embassy of Vietnam to get visa, but recently I got the letter approval by Vietnam Immigration -snip- , can anyone tell me the stamping procedure at airport? Is this quick?
It is SLOW. I was there early in the morning with not many people but it took over an hour.
You will need two passport sized photos and American dollars for payment for your visa. No exchange bureau available. Immigration will change money for you but at a very bad rate. US$ are OK to spend in Vietnam.
If your visa is for 30 days in the letter, you will have to pay one month, even if you only plan on spending several days in Vietnam.
Do not hassle the immigration officers. A French guy did it and they made him regret it.

1 - you will only be asked for one picture
2 - there are several exchange bureaus in the airport, but not in the immediate arrivals area
3 - I've never heard of Immigration acting as an exchange
4 - yes you can use USD, but you will then be overpaying (use VN Dong)
I think an hour is quite unusual. I usually enter through Hanoi, and have never waited more than 15 minutes (usually late at night).
There is one way of speeding up the process - download the "Form on Arrival" and complete it prior to landing. Several vendors can supply this - just google.
Just look for the counter that says "Visa" or "Visa on Arrival" - just be sure you don't proceed to the Immigration Gates before you have your visa sticker in your passport.
I sent my VISA application in through the mail and they had me go up and get printed later on when it was approved. It is just easier to avoid bureaus whenever possible. Good luck through immigration though. This always seems to be where I get held up.
