Hi there!
Well, China is quite big! There's a lot of places worth a try in China. But amongst Chinese people, Yangshuo is getting really popular - a small town around beautiful karst mountains, in Southern China. Check out WikiTravel, they got plenty of useful informations!
Thanks
Think I have a rough idea
Suzhou to shanghai
Shanghai to Beijing
Beijing to Xi'an
Xi'an to Chengdu
Chengdu to Shanghai
the first 8 weeks i have my accommodation sorted Im just not sure how much spending money i will need. Any suggestions welcome
xx
China is great.
If you are into nature, these places are the best:
JiuZhaigou (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jiuzhaigou) - if you have to pick one place, this is it!
Guilin & Yangshou
Hangzhou (or Suzhou, they are pretty similar)
For cheap flights you can try spring airlines
As for spending money, the sky is the limit, but here are some guide numbers:
1. A cheap (and good) noddle meal - 20 -30 RMB
2. A cup of coffee at Starbucks - 30 RMB
3. Taxi can be about 50 - 30 RMB for short trips.
4. Public transport is very cheap - subway / busses 2-5 RMB (really depends)
I would say you can survive on 100 RMB per day (~$15), but that would be the real low end. Realistic is more like double that. Only you know what's important to you
Safe travels!

Hi Jaynz
We're in China now, at the end of a two-week trip. There's plenty in Beijing to keep you busy for at least a week but we had just three days there; Tianenmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Hutongs, the Temple of Heaven, the Lama Temple and the Great Wall at Mutianyu. We didn't have time for the Summer Palace. From Beijing we took a sleeper train to Xi'an and went to the Terracotta Army and then Hua Shan and did the plank walk. Then another sleeper train to Chengdu and a visit to the pandas at the breeding centre. Then on to Chongqing and a budget trip down the Yangtze to the three gorges and finally a train from Yichang to Shanghai for a couple of days on the Bund. We've done it fairly cheaply and there are certainly companies or hostels that can give you good deals on accommodation and on trips. Two weeks here hardly scratches the surface but that's all the time we have. Really enjoyed it all as I'm sure you will.
