Hello there, it seems reasonable, although in consideration to my experience I would might look at Malaysia as the main objective, and travel KL, Malacca, Penang, and Cameron HL. Malaysia is a diverse and interesting cultural society and it has a lot to offer, I spend 4 days in KL and 5 days on Borneo, in Kuching.
I could easily have spent more time. So depending on how much you prior the beach, I would focus on the options and experience that is offered in Malaysia...
I wish you a great time travel, sometimes the best way of seeking answer is to do and learn by gaining experience on your own...

We will only book our hotel for the first days in KL and Cameron Highlands, and see from there, based on what we like, how we continue
