Criminal record

Hi everyone I am from the U.S. And I have criminal record from 20 years ago. I want to travel to Europe next year and am wondering if I am going to be denied. I did 18 monthes in prison for a possession charge. I was denied entry into Canada but heard they deny anyone with a record. My record is spotless for over 20 years now. Thx.

Why don't you look into having your record expunged. That will also mean you will not be denied entry to Canada. It will remove this obstacle to travel, once and for all.

Actually, no. Neither the CBSA (Canadian Border Services Agency) nor the US CBP (Customs and Border Protection) will recognise any Pardon, etc. issued by the other country. Once the immigration computer in either country sees your criminal record then it never forgets, even if it's wiped clean in the country of origin.

To enter Canada Ron needs to apply for Criminal Rehabilitation: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/rehabil.asp

Ron, if that's your only conviction then the Criminal Rehabilitation will be rubber-stamped, no big deal. It's expensive and usually takes a long time to process, but with only one conviction (even with jail time) from 20+ years ago this is no problems.

Cheers,
Terry
