$15,000; Asia/South East Asia 1 chance, help?

Hello everyone, So I am planning a trip and more than likely it will be my only chance for a very very long time to ever go back to Asia due to work plans. I will be departing out of LAX mid May for this journey. I will have a budget of $15,000 with no real expiration date of how long I take so I want to do it "right" so to speak(thinking roughly 6months would be good). A little bit about myself so you guys have a better idea: I'm pretty outgoing, thrill seeker, and love to try out new things especially when it comes to food. I enjoy taking photos as I have a DSLR so imagery will be somewhat important to me during my trip. As far as destinations so far I have planned to go to(in rough order):

Hi AT,

One part you can consider is entering Laos from Vietnam and then proceed to Thailand. Heard there's a bus service from Hanoi to Vientiane(Laos) and one hell of a journey too... but you can take a train/Bus from Vientiane to Bangkok though. Cheaper and bearable.

Thanks for the info sivarmn, only reason why i'm actually backtracking and flying to thailand is a buddy of mine is traveling with me until thiland or more like end of july. He needs to get back to the states and he really wanted to visit vietnam and thailand. But still good to know for me to go back to laos via train once i'm done with thailand

Hmmm....I was hoping for more feedbacks by now so I can get my research on =T

I went to vietnam not long ago, i would definetly go to hanoi and then halong bay from there.
I then went to nha trang but wouldn't recommend this unless you want a relaxing beach break for a couple of days as In saigon (we only had one day here) i would definetly go to the cu chi tunnels, really interesting tour, and you actually get to go in them. The museums are pretty interesting too, but get to these early as we left it till after the tunnels tour and there wasn't enough time to look round them completley.

My friend went a little later and said Hoi An was well worth a visit, she got loads of clothes made very cheaply!

Hope this is of some help!

Katie

So my days are winding down and i should be leaving for korea sunday or monday(25-26 april). Anyone one else going to some of the place mentioned? would be nice to meet up with some people if going to same countries

I live in Korea so what are your plans for your time here? I will try to help if you give me some info.

I will arrive monday evening at ICN. take bus to seoul and will be staying at the Bong Rooms. First day will probably tour the DMZ and just whatever is in seoul till friday. friday morning im going to head down to cheongju, try eating some dog(why not?), and saturday is some kind of green tea festival. sunday i will probably continue to head down south east side and enjoy the country side making it all the way down to jeju island hopfully. once i get down there head back up west side of korea back to seoul. should be around 2 to 3 weeks of travel in Korea

I was going to suggest the free Goodwill Guides in Seoul for you, but I think it would take at least a month to arrange that reservation.

Just wanted to say a word of warning on Vietnam. If you've never been there, you must realize that motorbikes are extremely popular there and driving skill in this country is among the worst on Earth - no joke. I believe the death count for long distance bus accidents in 2009 was close to 10,000 persons! I strongly suggest that you start off your ride with short trips and stay off of the main north-south coastal road - deadliest highway in SE Asia. Please be careful - you won't believe traffic in this country (I didn't).

I live on the East Coast in Samcheok, so if you are heading over here then send me a private message and I will try to help.
