Looking to Rent a really nice house in costa rica for myself and about 10-12 friends in Costa Rica. I have never been to costa rica and could use some help with planning. Some advice would be helpful optimal place to stay as we are trying to do zip lining, surfing on beaches, check rain forests, and possibly volcanos. We are trying to stay for 5 days. Is it possible to get all this in? All help is appreciated.

I have never rented a house there, but Arenal is the area that covers all you are looking to do in Costa Rica. You don't mention the water, and you won't get any there, except for the river. All the things you want are there, though. ANd there are plenty of people, both locals and expats, trying to rent stuff to folk. So try that.
If you want to factor in water, and are not set on the volcano, I would suggest the area around Quepos and Manuel Antonio park... I know FOR SURE that there are houses for rent there for short term and it has everything you want except volcanoes, and the water.

You should mention the time of the year during which you intend to visit the country.
Secondly, what do you understand by a "really nice" house? And what does "about" 10-12 people mean ?
The activities which you intend to undertake can be started from many areas in the country.
How do you envisage transportation: public bus service, private bus hire, etc.?
Any particular budget restrictions?
I can think of various options, but you need to be more specific.

We actually found a place in Jaco Bay and we will be going down there over memorial day. What do you recommend checking out in that area of the country. We will have a couple cars at our disposal for travel as well

Are you staying in Jaco the whole time? I would recommend going to Arenal to see the volcanos and go river rafting. Also, Costa Rica sport fishing is amazing here. It is at the end of the season so I would go out and try to catch some Tuna and Marlin. Also, Playa Hermosa which is next to Jaco is beautiful and a little more quiet. Lastly, if you want to travel for a bit the west side is amazing on the peninsula especially the Tamarindo area.

On our first day in Costa Rica everbody told us we were seeing the best of it at the start of our trip. We flew from San Jose to Puerto Jiminez (1 hour) so we could go to the Corcovado National park.
I can not overstate how beautiful and unique this place is.
Within a few days of trekking and staying in a jungle camp we saw so many rare events. Including a Puma with its cub (i got this on video), a crocodile catching a bird in the river mouth just as we happened to be walking past (very lucky to see that, our experienced guide said he had never seen this before). We also saw 3 baby green turtles heading to the Pacific and hitting the water for the first time, it was magical. Red Makaws flying over tree covered cliffs.. i can go on.
This area of national park was once an island off the coast, the millions of years away from the mainland allowed the islands creatures to evolve and diverge in their own ways, into species found no where else on Earth. there are things here you wil not see anywhere else in the world, in the literature on the area it tells you how this small area has about 2.6% of the worlds biodiversity, Costa Rica has about 5% in total, so this area is buzzing with life, literally. Wikipedia calls it the most biologically intense place on Earth. It is so beautiful and it feels special being there. It is now a Peninsula in the South Pacific side of Costa Rica, yet the endemic species have been somewhat limited in their dispersal due to mountain ranges and rivers cutting them off, so you have to go there to see these animals and plants.

That appears to be a lodge to hire. You should do this. You would not regret it I am sure. I think about it every signle day since I got back.
If you want a guide, ask in the small town of Puerto Jimenez at the lcoal bars for a guide named Koki (pronounced Cokey, as in the drink). People will know who you mean. he was brilliant, he is practically part of the jungle, and is trying to set up his own private tours, his prices are the best around and he knows so much about the forest.
