What would you cut out of this itinery?

Hello all,

I would cut both Tokyo and Thailand. Tokyo because - if you're only stopping in one city of Japan, it's such a waste - you should explore the entire country. Thailand because - I don't think you'll have enough time, and Indochina will be cheaper and more rewarding.

Now, if this were my trip, I'd choose either South Asia or East Asia (not both). 3 months might seem quite a bit of time, but these are vast areas they should really be explored slowly.

Hey thanks for the reply,

I know that these are vast countries but it'll be "the big trip" - that prob won't happen again due to getting old/money and silly careers stuff.

We would only spend a week in Tokyo and my feeling is that it's a long way out of the journey to visit for just a week. I agree that longer - at least two weeks - could be spent there on a separate trip later in life.

I really don't want to leave out Thailand. I've been before and loved the country so it really is my no.1 place to visit (hence why it's at the end of the trip)

Thanks

3 months is going to be hard, To give you an idea...A few years ago I flew to india for a 2 week visit and left 5 months later. I spend 3 months in nepal and and my overnight stopover in thailand became a 8 month Asia adventure.
People dont visit nepal to see kathmandu, or India to see Delhi..cross those to off the list... they need longer stays.
My tip.. pick just a couple locations and remember its not the location but the journey to it that makes any trip worthwhile.

Thank you all for your replies! I think I've made some tough choices but will probably have to cut this down even more!

Unfortunately miss out Sri Lanka and Southern India. Also miss out all of Nepal.

Fly from:

London to Delhi

Delhi to Bejing

Beijing to Tokyo (and back again hopefully)

Beijing to Xi'an (China)

Xi'an to Guilin (China)

Guilin to Ha Noi

Ha Noi to Vientianne

Vientianne to Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai to Bangkok

Bangkok all the way to Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur to London

What do you think? Is this more reasonable? We'll be travelling downwards in Thailand so I thought it made sense to go all the way to Kuala Lumpur rather than heading all the way back to Bangkok.

Still worried about the travel/time in China/Tokyo though and dissapointed I've had to say good bye to Nepal.

I have to comment on Laos. The real beauty spot here is Luang Prabang and it's immediate area, so I would fly from Hanoi to Luang Prabang and and then continue on to Vientiane or Chiang Mai from there.
