Bank/Phone/Internet - NZ

Hey everyone,

Westpac is a very popular back here in NZ, but most banks do no or low fee accounts. Vodafone is our biggest sim card based mobile phone company, and they have vodems for wireless internet too

Bank accounts a really easy to set up over here, just walk into a branch, sign a few forms and your ready to go. The main banks are nationalbank, BNZ, ANZ, kiwibank and westpac. I don't really think any are better or worse than the others.

With phones you can choose between Vodaphone, Telecom and 2degrees. Vodaphone is prob the most popular but I would also checkout 2degrees. The're a new company which just started here last year so I'm not sure what they offer in the way of mobile internet though.

Thanks guys,

Will I need to have a fixed address to get my bank acc opened or what way will it work for receving my bank card etc......... I will more than likely be staying at a hostel to start with while I look for work and then will plan to find somewhere to live so will need to have my bank acc set up 1st.

Thanks
Mo

The main thing to watch out for with the NZ banks are the monthly charges and/or charges per each transaction. The is really good as there are no charges at all.

I got a 2 Degrees one on arrival in NZ, you can just get one in any newsagents and have good coverage and the rates are pretty decent too
