Eastern Europe...to interrail or not?

Hi,

Making an educated guess I think that if only make those journeys and no side-trips you'll be better off without an interrail pass.

www.jizdenka.cz can help you figure out prices.

BTW, get used to one little trick: Always try to buy national tickets. Budapest-Bucharest might be done cheaper if you buy Budapest-Arad and Arad-Bucharest.

And instead of going Vienna-Prague-Budapest I would go Prague-Brastislava-Vienna(-Bratislava)-Budapest. If you use the special offers for travelling between Vienna and the neighboring capitals Bratislava, Prague, and Budapest this way will work out cheaper.

A useful website for train prices is www.jizdenka.cz and for figuring out the cheapest route http://www.bueker.net/trainspotting/maps.php

Pre-booking online is not possible for many of those connections, you have to buy at the train station. With a bit of knowledge how train prices work this can save you some money. If possible buy a few days in advance, especially reservations for sleeper trains.

Yeah trains ONLY and buy the day of. No Interrail needed.

Fine words all round.
I too am a very experienced European rail traveller. Inter-rail?? Nah. There is nothing to add to what has already been said.

  1. 5.... Don't think TP likes posts you've just put up. You might be zapped shortly.
