I have had a caxton fx euro and dollar card for over a year now - no problems with them at all!In fact they come in very useful when I'm on holiday.
They do ask for a lot of documentation agreed - but i believe its just a security measure. They are also authorised by the FSA to hold customer money "Caxton fx is registered as a company in England No. 4610337 and regulated by the Financial Services Authority No. 431844" - (details from their website) which means they are pretty much as safe as you can get.
If your unsure about anything though I would suggest giving them a call.
Unless it's a rush, I'd hold fire till I've heard a bit more. Actually been thinking of getting a prepaid 'Mastercard', but was put off each time I looked at all the different specs on the 'which card?' sites.
The Caxton FX seems to have an administration fee of £25 - have I read that right? Any other cards worth looking at I wonder?

The only thing I had to pay was a £10 deposit when getting my cards, but that was just loaded as credit to my card for me to spend. I think the £25 admin fee is if you go overdrawn on the card – but as it is a pre-pay card that kind of understandable and is the same with most bank debit cards!
I think it really does just depend what you want to use a prepaid card for? There are lots out there that have different fees, exchange rates, no atm fees etc – As Which? is an independent reviewer of lots of products i would imagine that they review some of the best ones?
I went for the caxton fx card as my dad had one (and he tends to know things inside/out before committing). From experience, my prepaid card is still cheaper than using my debit card abroad – and it is much safer than carrying loads of holiday cash.
The Caxton FX Card is OK for certain transactions and not for others, much the same as every card available. Certain UK budget airlines dont charge a card fee if the Caxton FX is used for the purchase. So, there's one plus. But it charges a quite high fee compared to others for certain transactions.
Honestly, the way forward - is to go into a bank, or look on-line and read what the different cards offer and charge.
No card anywhere (whether credit, debit, with a limit or pre-loaded) is free from all charges.
i got a caxton fx card about a month ago for when i go away,i was advised by someone who had used one,they asked me for my passport and bank statement aswell.and as someone has already said,i had to pay £10 which just went on my card for me to use

Seems Caxton themselves will charge £1.50 if a flight, or return flight, originates from the UK and paid in sterling.
Still a saving from Ryanair's card charges though - £5 each way I believe. Might just go for one.
Caxton Euro levies no charge for flights from within Europe and paid in euros - and I think the Global card is the same if the purchase is made in euros, though it'll need a bit more reading.

Not strictly right. They charge for certain airlines, but not for others.
At the same time, some budget airlines waiver the fee if Caxton is used to book the flight, some dont.
It does have some good reviews, but others say they have been caught out.
I was talking about Ryanair, though that wasn't very clear.
...and Caxton's own charge, not Ryanair's. Confusing, ain't it?

How easy it was once, many centuries ago.... To walk into a travel agents, buy a plane ticket and pay in 'Cash'.
Cash? Whats that all about then?
All sounds far too confusing to do such a thing nowadays - dont you think?
