Interrail for Cypriot passport holder living outside Europe?

Hy,
I'm not a European resident and I'm going to buy the Eurail global pass from my homecountry Lebanon.
I'm travelling with a friend who is a holder of a Cypriot passport (European passport) but is not living in Europe for the last 6 months. Should he use Eurail or Interrail?
If the answer is Interrail, can we buy it from a train station in Athens which is our first destination?
Thanks a lot

Anyone?

Impatient one, aren't you? Look here: .

Cypriots can use the Interrail pass. It doesn't matter where your friend has lived if s/he holds a Cypriot passport. Do your math in advance, though, because it's not necessarily cheaper than separate tickets.

I don't think you can buy Interrail passes at the station anymore; buying them online is easy, though. Beware you purchase via an official channel.

Thank you for your reply bentivogli.
If I understand this well; Holders of European passports cannot buy the Eurail even if they live outside Europe for more than 6 months. (?)

Buying online is not an option anymore since we are leaving in 3 days and that I think is a limit for delivery :S
I think we are going to pay as we go

Our route is the Mediterranean coast of Europe from Mykonos to Ibizza!

Your friend can buy Eurail if he can prove that he has been living abroad for more than 6 months. A copy of a residency permit in another country would do the trick.

You are correct when you think that one 3-month Eurail pass will be cheaper than three 1-month Interrail passes.

t_maia, thank you for your reply.

Do you think that the stamps on the passport that show that he has been out will do the job?
Do you think that it would be hard to prove this when they come to check?

If we can both take Eurail we could use the Savior Pass (group pass) it would be even cheaper. But I really don't want to get there and find out that the Greeks do not agree :-)

One more question, will they allow him to buy the Interrail if they find out that he has been out for more than 6 months?

Thank you guys for your time.

The truth is, they don't care too much.

The only thing they want to do is prevent EU-residents from using Eurail - a three month Eurail pass would be too tempting an offer to pass up.

This thread contains interesting new information: is an Interrail pass more expensive these days than a EUrail pass? Used to be the other way around...
