For a first trip to Paris, you really need to see the Eiffel Tower!
You can leave left luggage at the station at Austerlitz - I'm not sure if all the stations have left luggage available it depends on the state of security at the time. Many left luggage offices are closed if security is tight. I'll see what I can find out for you. I've sent an e-mail to the SNCF.
A great thing to do, since it's such a flying visit, you can buy a bus ticket for the open buses where you get such a good view of Paris and you can get off and on where ever you like. You could spend the day pootling about on the bus, get off and see Le Sacré Coeur for example, have a bite to eat, then hop back on and get off at the Musée Rodin for example.
I'm sure other people will have better ideas. I'll get back when I hear about the left luggage.
Whatever you do, you won't be disappointed in Paris! Ooooh, another thought..... go and have a drink Au Deux Magots - where Hemmingway used to drink - will cost you but you'll never forget it! The waiters wear those long aprons...6 place Saint Germain Des Prés. I'm starting to feel jealous! I'm in Brittany!
I have received a reply from the SNCF - here's in international N° you can ring.

Good luck!
