Best way of changing currency when travelling SE Asia.

Hello,

I use USD travel checks when I am in SEA. I get them free, but most pay a 1% fee to buy them. There is also a service fee per check when cashing them in Thailand. Take large TCs if you choose that option. Cash TCs at banks. You will get a better exchange rate.

Most visitors to SEA now use ATMs for cash. ATMs also charge fees when using them. Check with your bank and compare fees. Then you will know what is the best option for you. Good luck with your planning.

Research ATM cards. Several have no fee plans for foreign withdrawals. They're by far the easiest/cheapest option when traveling to destinations that see lots of tourists like SE Asia.

Have fun.

Cheers,
Terry

The fee to cash a travelers check in Thailand is 33 baht. When you bring travelers checks only bring the largest denominations so you don't waste fees on small amounts.

In Thailand if you use a debit or credit card you will have a 150 baht surcharge on top of the normal ATM fees so don't waste fees on small withdrawal amounts.

Remember to notify your bank if you will be using their credit card overseas. When the bank notices ATM requests suddenly coming from overseas they suspect fraud.

Have fun.

Thailand has a terrible record when it comes to . are several reported in the . Be vigilant in protecting your card and pin number. Good luck.

Hi Rollios, as advised above I feel cards are the best option. But if you like to carry Travellers Cheques then use large amount TC's, to avoid the fees, or contact your bank for clarifications, and be care full while using your credit or debit cards, have a great trip.

Bye

Jack

Thank you for sharing such a good info.

US dollar are most suitable currency which can be easily convery every where without any problem . i prefer US dollar

It's getting near impossible to cash traveler's checks in many countries now. The biggest headache of all being Burma - no atm's, no traveler's checks - it's all about 100% perfect cash notes there.

I just bring my debit card when I'm in SEA - works fine 99% of the time (just be sure to tell your bank of your plans).
