My husband and I will be going to New York and have found this cosy budget boutique hotel called 102 Brownstone. However it is located in harlem, at 102 W 118th st, New York City, NY 10026 to be exact. Anyone knows if it's safe around that area?
Harlem has changed quite a bit, and I believe it's now very safe. You might also consider Brooklyn. Have you seen the listings at Airbnb? I just think you get a better bang for the buck in Brooklyn.
The area really has improved a ton. Is it a great area? No. But it's not awful by any means -it's an area where gentrification has started. I'd still exercise a fair bit of street smarts but I don't think you'll have a problem so long as you are alert to the surroundings.
It's only about 2 miles from my home, and I have some clients just a couple of blocks west where the area has been getting nicer and nicer.
