thailand and malaysia travels questions

Hey everybody,
Im at the point of purchasing my ticket to thailand for a month and i had an idea that i thought would be fun but im not sure if its smart or possible. Instead of flying in and out of bangkok, for the same price i could fly into kuala lumpur then make my way north and eventually fly out of bangkok a month later. Im wondering if anyone has had this same itinerary or experience? Do i need any special documents in malaysia? Is malaysia safe? etc? anything information is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Even if I had one very bad experience in the center of Chic Kuala Lumpur, I still say Malaysia is probably the safest place in Southeast Asia.

Land travel from Malaysia to Thailand is something that so many people have done, so it should be safe and easy.

ASEAN member countries don't need Visa to Malaysia. Don't know about the US, but I also want to do know.

I've crossed the border... I just went to the bus station and also the train station.

For Americans, they get 90 Days Malaysian Visa stamp upon arrival (nomatter by land or air). As for Thailand, Americans will get 30 Days Visa if they arrive through the International Airports and 15 Days Visa if they travel by land.

Malaysia is quite safe. As well as Thailand.
