My wife and I might actually find the time to do some hiking on our next visit to Germany in the spring of 2012. I'm not a big believer in over-preparing for an adventure (kind of defeats the purpose), but then again, we're not as young as we used to be, nor will we have much time when we get there. So...I'm not looking for advice on particular trails or routes so much as on what the chances are a guy can just show up without booking ahead, hit the trail and find a decent place to bunk. I'm not averse to spending a night or two under the stars, but my wife might be.
