RTW Itinerary help: Where to start, Costa Rica or Brazil?

catmaya has indicated that this thread is about South America

Hi! I am in Costa Rica right now and I can recommend you this small but very changing country but that is up to you. From here you have to go through Panama which is also an amazing country(if you like to see cool places and party, Bocas del Toro is a good place to visit in Panama). I have decided to stay here to April instead of going home in November. Though, I do not know where and when I will be so maybe we can meet up somewhere in January because I want to go down through South America as well! Would be really fun. I have not made any plans yet though I am building up my budget as I go along

Hope that helped you out and if you have questions about my trip or costa rica or anything, don't hesitate.

Peace within!

Hi Marcus!
I still haven't made up my mind but it's starting to look like I'll either be landing in Buenos Aires and working my way up through Chile, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador, or starting out perhaps in Venezuela and working my way down. Nothing certain yet but it should be within a week or so, it's just so damn hard trying to decide which is the best way to go! My main restriction here is my budget
Speaking of which, how are you building up yours? I figured the best option to stretch mine out in SA would be doing volunteer work for a couple months, here and there, and backpacking around for the rest of the time until I seriously start running low, at which point I'll move on to NZ and OZ and get a job til I have enough money to backpack around Asia!
Your trip sounds wonderful, what exactly are you doing in Costa Rica?
Take care
Maya.

Alright! With that I can't help you since I haven't traveled there yet but go with the flow and ask yourself and I think you know. I am building my through attracting things and persons that helps me, I live for free in return for videos and photos at places and I also have a FundedbyMe site where people can support me and in return get videos and photos. So I have a pretty low budget but I have no doubt in myself that I will make every wish true and easy to make reality

Volunteer is fun and good so yeah, try it out! I am working weekly in different places and shoot video and take photos of the places and at the same time working with it along with my buddy and making a documentary about it. Right now, we are in Quesada and helping kids with english. Next week, it's an orphanage and we have been to marine parks, school for handicapped, national parks and stuff like that.

Maybe we can meet up later in SA. I will be in CA until January, I think

Costa Rico is a great start.
Once you arrive there and clear customs find a bus to Jaco, which is a few hours away on the Pacific Ocean. Nice community. I got a room at the Marylin Hotel for about $18 U.S.
You can go back to San Jose and catch an international bus to Panama City. From P.C. it gets tricky. You have to take a bus to Colon; which is a toilet. Or try to get a bus to Portabella. From Portabella you have to find a "Coconut Boat" to Columbia. Could take a day or 2, maybe 3.
The last town in Panama you give up you tourist card and walk into Panama. It is a dangerous area; could run into seedy characters.
Ancon is an agency in P.C. who can help you get into Columbia. Once you arrive in Columbia you have to take another boat to Turbo, where you catch the Pan-American highway. Its a 12 hour bus ride from there to Medillan, Cocaine Capital of the world! This ride is also full of dangers. Be very careful. It take about 2 or 3 days to reach Ecuador.
The rest of the trip should be good. Travel daylight hours only.
I will be in San Jose around mid- march before the "Rainy Season." April the rainy season starts.
Good luck.

Or you can fly to South America if you got the money for it to save time and it's more safe. And don't be too worry about the April because it's just the start of the rainy season. It's worse in September and October but we got pretty awesome weather here now before 4pm but before April is better of course
