Gorilla Trekking in Uganda in November

TwendeAfrica has indicated that this thread is about Uganda

Hi there

We have experience of tracking gorillas in both Rwanda and Uganda and I live in Uganda. November can be wet in both countries (especially where Gorillas are tracked - as they live in rainforest up mountains so the weather patterns change from the lower-lying areas) but markedly more so in Rwanda as more of the country is mountainous. It is called the 'land of a thousand hills' for a reason!

If November is your preferred month for travel, I wouldn't discount it as an option, but aim for late November rather than early as that's starting to move into dry season, certainly for Uganda. Early November can still be quite wet, so I would urge you to steer your dates as close to December as you can.

Pack waterproofs anyway, as it often rains in the rainforest even in the dry season. And decent waterproof hiking boots. And frankly, when you reach the gorillas, you'll have such a big smile on your face that you won't care how wet it is. The experience more than makes up for any discomfort!

Hope that helps! Enjoy the gorillas.

Oh, and one more thing. The Uganda Wildlife Authority have confirmed details of discounted tracking permits for November 2011 - to encourage more tracking in low season. So depending on availability, and who you travel with, you may benefit from a heavily discounted rate.

You may want to check it out. Not sure if you're planning to travel as soon as the current month, or if you're planning for 2012, but if the promotion is successful they may do it again:
