Rio De Janeiro- Carnival 2012

Hi all,

Chris,

I will also be traveling alone to Carnival this year. I've also noticed this post is somewhat old, so if you are still interested in meeting up with someone I would be more than happy to meet up with you during the festivities and enjoy the Carnival together. I'm 20, a little younger, but I'd feel better if I had someone to travel with.

Let me know,

Shea

Hi Shea,

I am SO GLAD you guy are going/ thinking about going to Brazil for carnival. I am Brazilian native, residing in the US for the last 11 years. I also will be going to carnival 2012- Rio de Janeiro.

Accommodation- Because I will stay @ my parents' I do not have too much input. I did, prior to replying this post, some research on a major hostel website (I didnt provide address on this post afraid administrator would consider that advertising), and found some daily places ranging from $90- $145 USD. Good spots for accommodations will be Santa Tereza, Copacabana or anywhere in the south side.
As far as debating on buying the ticket for carnival, it is a great experience I can tell you that. Yet, Rio itself will host over 400 parades (or blocos) on the streets- enough entertainment. You can drink on the streets, and last year's beer price was 2 for R$ reais ( about $3 USD for 2 cans of beer). I am sure this year will be more.

I will be spending 10 days in Rio, and cannot wait to get there.

I understand going to a different country can be somehow intimidating. PLEASE, let me know if I can provide any input to assist you.

Best, and WELCOME to RIOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Hi Shea!

I've literally just been to Rio and it was amazing, so I bet it will be even more stunning for Carnival - I'm very jealous. When I stayed there I stayed in an apartment which I found on Hostel world called RonRioFlats. The guy that owned them couldn't have been more helpful, and the apartment was great - right between Copacabana beach and Ipanema Beach so it was close to everything! However if you were thinking of staying in a hostel the only other one I have stayed at that I can recommend is called Casa 579 which was really cool - it had a really nice vibe and some really chilled people there. It had amazing views of sugar loaf and the christ statue but was a bit far out. Apart from these I have heard that a hostel called Mellow Yellow is really really good, and I know another hostel called Hi Copa is very close to the beach, that looked pretty decent.

I hope this helps! Have a great time!

Laura
