Motorcycle through the Great Divide with me!

Hey guys!

Hey guys!

I'm new to Travellerspoint but excited to start becoming a regular contributor here on the forums!

So basically, I am planning a trip down the continental divide (A trail from Canada to the Border of Mexico) with my boyfriend. We're going to do this trip by motorcycle (A URAL PATROL with a sidecar). It will entail much camping and strenuous road naviagating due to the fact that majority of the road is unpaved.

I'm a writer for WORLD HUM and TRAVEL CHANNEL and am using this opportunity to write. We'd love some company on this long trip and are looking for fellow travel enthusiasts! If you're interested in this adventure and think you will get along with us, email me!

I look forward to hearing from you!

You'll probably find more friends over here a number of the people there have done this ride too.

Portions of that ride are very tough even on a modern dual purpose bike so with the Ural be prepared to make detours around quite a few sections. Also, be sure you're well prepared with a proper GPS, maps (and the knowledge how to navigate properly), Mike McCoy’s excellent "Cycling the Great Divide" book etc. Even with all that stuff you will get lost now and then, believe me.

Googling will bring up lots of blogs detailing that trip, they will be invaluable for your research.

Good luck, that's quite an undertaking on that bike.

Rubber-side down...

Cheers,
Terry

Most interesting part of this ride (IMHO) is where it goes through Yellowstone National Park. The divide literally passes the main road at least seven times in a 40 mile stretch. The area is covered with geysers, hot springs with multiple color schemes, lots of wildlife including buffalo, bears, and wolves; and tons of tourists acting nuts and wondering where they are.

I would plan on spending more time here--and also in the Glacier National Park area, where rock formations along side the road literally have waterfalls for 100 yard stretches going down from top to bottom. (The waterfalls will be 30 feet high--but stretch for the entire rock wall sections.) These are things you will not see anywhere else in the world--and are phenomenal to see.

Have a great trip--sounds fantastic
