spain

my husband, 15 year old daughter and I are planning a 2 week trip thru spain and considering the following itinerary:

I'd spend a day less in Madrid and a day more in Seville, as there's less to see and do in Madrid, and Seville is a lovely city. It does seem like you'll be moving about a lot - maybe consider missing out Majorca and spending those extra 2 days in one of the other places.

I'm not sure about car rental but I used trains a lot in Spain and it was a good way to get around as they were regular, reliable and fast. Prices seemed reasonable too, except the high-speed line between Seville and Madrid which can be very expensive unless you book well in advance.

In Madrid I would recommend the Ibis - not the most inspiring of places maybe, but it's the best Ibis I've stayed in because the location is perfect and the staff are great.

This is an extremely fast paced itinerary with (possibly) little understanding of the time taken between destinations, accommodation door to door, whatever your transport.
It gives you little time in many places and is unbalanced with the amount of time spent in several places - but maybe you are happy with just seeing a couple of sites which you are interested in somewhere, when sometimes there are a dozen or more places which would interest a first time visitor.
If all you want in mainland Spain are those cities, much is walkable or covered by public transport. There is little reason to be burdened with a car, standing idle, costing extra in those cities. Take the train between, fast and efficient, city centre to city centre.
Frankly - near halve your wish list of destinations.

How do you intend to train or drive to Mallorca?

Hello Carol

Your itinerary sounds fun.

Like Bex I would strongly recommend skipping Majorca this time and using those 2 days to stretch out the rest of the holiday so you don't have to spend as much time dashing about.

In Granada, I stayed at the Casa Del Capital Nazari, which is a very characterful old merchant's house and not too expensive.

I have also travelled by train in Spain and found it to be clean, efficient and relatively inexpensive.

thanks for the advice. i had been thinking of dropping majorca because i was feeling it would be too much. i think we will do that and stretch our days
out in each city. we also have friends from denmark who will be in almeria and i would like to see them. thank you for the hotel info. any other info you have to share would be welcome.
