Well I recently met a couple who told me about a Buddhist monastry in Thailand, somewhere near Chiang Mai that they visited.
Apparently anyone can just go there and stay for as long as they like. They are provided with a place to sleep (just space on concrete floor and a mat) and food (whatever the locals bring the monks - nothing special) and are taught meditation.
It was an amazing experience for them (I think they stayed around 10 days) which changed the way they think.
... so anyway that's on my 2do list
