Hey,
After a lot of thought of where to go I have decided Australia! I have not booked anything yet but was planning on leaving at the end of September or beginning of October for 6 months, maybe work for 3 of them as I still want to travel around! Loads of people say if you travel to Australia you need to go to New Zealand but I would also like to go to China and Thailand.
I'm looking for anyone who's going around the same time and similar plans. I'll be travelling from London and its my first time! Any offers welcome would be nice to book the same hostels etc...

don't get sucked in to much by what everyone else says, nz is awesome but personally i reckon you should do that on a whole different holiday, aus is such an awesome country with so much to see , maybe go off the the usual backpacker track a little in aus do some wwoofing/helpx in the centre, do a trip down the west coast (i actually thought the west coast was amazing!!).. get the second year visa, spend some time saving aussie dollars the goto nz, thailand etc... you'll never earn in any country as much as you can earn in aus as a backpacker i've found...
anyway, sorry.. i'm ranting on haha have an awesome tie whatever you do
Hey, I am also going to Australia on my own on the 16th September, flying from London (Heathrow). Im going for a year though, and also have no idea what im going to do once im out there other than starting in sydney as thats where im flying to.
Im on a working holiday visa too and im working my way around as i will be leaving straight out of uni with no money haha.
Have you thought about doing the STA travel starter pack? Im considering it but would be up for booking it with someone or something. One name would be nice on day 1!

I fly from Manchester to Melbourne 18th August and hope to be there for a month or two before making my way to Sydney for work and NYE of course. Travelling solo too and not done anything like this before!
Cathryn, STA travel pack looks okay if you have the extra money but if you go to the bigger hostels I think there will be plenty of people travelling alone where you'd be able to meet new people etc, but obviously up to you!
Would be good to meet as I only have a couple of friends out there that I know and hope not to be a loner for too long!

sounds like we have similar plans but I'll be flying from Newcastle
I also think Mayas idea of saving some money on the starter packs is a good one, that's what I'm planning on doing anyway!

Hey sorry im so rubbish at checking this!
I fly from Heathrow on 6th October to Cairns and will be travelling down the west coast either hostel to hostel or camper van! I have booked a hostel for 2 weeks over Christmas and new year so anyone around any places it would be good to meet up. feel free to add me on Facebook for a chat its Charlotte richards.

Ahh Michelle so we'll both be in Melbourne around similar times? I haven't booked accommodation yet, no have you? I want to get first week or so booked soon.
