Hello everyone, will be landing into Cairns early June on a WHV and will be looking to travel down the coast. Wanting to see as much as I can and hopefully get some farm work/fruit picking along the way. Wondering if anyone is around Cairns or looking to do the same? If anyone has ever started in Cairns what was your experience like? Thanks
Cairns is a very nice city on the coast with plenty of shops and restaurants. You can take a bus from here further north to Port Douglas another town worth a visit, further north still is Cape Tribulation well worth a visit.
You can take boats from Cairns and PD out to the Barrier Reef to snorkel but it is very expensive and I have to say I was very disappointed this time when I went.
The reef is damaged and bleached from the cyclones and bad weather which the coastline have experience in recent years, there were few fish at Agincourt, Hastings and Patches.
You are traveling the easy touristy route and will meet up with lots of young people from all over the world in the hostels doing exactly the same thing.
Take a trip to the Whitsundays, an amazing place and don't forget your camera.
Best of luck and keep safe out there.
