Ha long bay accommodations

Hey, what's up everyone? My wife and I are currently travelling south east Asia and we are in Koh Phangan where we are loving it - so nice here. We are going to be heading to Vietnam next around January 30 with plans to head to the north around Ha Long Bay. We are looking at staying for about a week in Vietnam and were wondering if anybody had any accommodations they would recommend. We are on a moderate budget so something up to $60 Canadian a night is what we are after. We are open to anything as far as accommodations go but want to make sure we are not too far from the bay and in a safe area. This is our first time travelling to Vietnam as well so we are really looking forward to experiencing the culture as w have heard nothing but good things. Any other tips and tricks are more than welcome!

You should have no problem finding accommodations in Vietnam to suit your budget. I spent a night on a junk in Ha Long Bay, then returned to Hanoi (about four hours away). I stayed at a wonderful small hotel in Hanoi's Old Quarter. If you want the name, send me a private message. You'll love the food in Vietnam!

When you're in Hanoi, call at one of the corner bars and try a Beer Ha Noi. It's brewed in the shops themselves and can vary in quality from place to place but most often, it's a lovely brew. And for about USD0.40 a glass!
