Travelling alone and staying in a hostel for the 1st time

Hi everyone,

Hi

Yes you'll normally bag a bunk when you arrive (by sticking some of your stuff there or otherwise showing it's taken) and keep it for your entire stay.

There are almost always lockers in the bunk room. You may want to take your own padlock to use on it.

Bed linen is provided, though you may have to make it up yourself. Lots of hostels (and some entire countries) ban people using their own linen to avoid spreading bedbugs. Towels, on the other hand, are often your own - but any hostel will rent you one. The hostel's website will probably have the fine details?

Agreed. You keep the bed by showing it is occupied. All hostel travellers should carry a padlock for use when a locker is provided.

However, I would never leave any real valuables even in a locker. Unfortunately, hostels are notorious for thefts by other travellers. So valuables either go in the hostel's safe at reception or are kept on your person as much as possible. Really, the best way to travel as a hosteller is to not travel with anything you are unwilling to lose. Worrying all the time about your phone or camera being stolen just isn't worth it.

Thanks guys, just a follow up question - what sort of things do you usually use to show the bed is occupied?

In the case where the linen is there for you to make it up yourself, making up your bed does the trick. Or stick your pyjamas on the pillow, your towel, a t-shirt, or fold back the duvet.

Thank you!

Travelling by yourself is one of the greatest experiencies one can have. That said, dont trust hostels to keep your things safe. At least the most important thing you should always take them with you

You have to be plan it before you travel. You must have a reservation in hotel. and dont forget to bring extra money or credits Cards for your emergency purposes. Have a safe trip

I too have experience in staying hostel. We actually need to be very careful while staying in hostel. There are so many people from different categories.
