Price of an RTW ticket.

What's the cheapest price (over the last 12 months) that someone has paid for an RTW ticket - and what was the route taken??
I've seen so many websites that offer tickets for under £700 (€800 - $1000). Do they really exist?? Cos when I've gone on to the websites offering these giveaways, there's nowt like them prices to be found.

check for cheap tickets, hope this helps!!

hey - I got a ticket as follows

london - bangkok - Sydney - Aukland (overland christchurch) - christchurch - sydney - bombay - london

all sotps, taxes, booking fees included for 1064 British Punds! i think its pretty good!!!

STA travel belfast - awesome agent!!

If you book well in front, don't mind having a fixed schedule (or pay to change it!) and don't mind flying with lowcost airlines, nowadays it's possible to make your own round the world ticket for around 600 GBP including all taxes.

But that's not a real RTW ticket of course, just separate tickets bought which together form a nice route around the world. And you are rather limited, but surprisingly not THAT limited as you would think.

Nice responses. I've never done an RTW trip. Only ever visited 3 continents - but seriously thinking about expanding on that.
I just can't find a 600GPB ticket anywhere though. I've made calls, sent emails, looked at a zillion websites (well - you know what I mean) oh - and actually been into travel agants as well.
Ain't given up though. I've 1/4'd air fare quotes within a day - I'm sure I can get a result with this one too.
Thanks for all the replies. Keep em coming and so much appreciated for your time.

i just booked my almost RTW ticket (individual flights)

San Francisco - Dublin - London - Kuala Lumpur - Melbourne - Newcastle (australia)

total cost 514Euros

Could have been cheaper if I only had carry-on luggage

Not sure you will now either unfortunately! The price of airfares and fuel surcharges is going up BUT RTW tickets work on seasons, so certain times of year are cheaper. Ask the likes of STA or TravelNation (I highly recommend these by the way!) what time of year is the cheapest. We got a RTW ticket in 2006 and it cost £1200 with fuel surcharges and a few internal flights in South America and NZ thrown in. Make sure you ask the agent if there are any add-on flights you can have as part of the ticket to get your money's worth!

I would guess booked through a variety of budget airlines - Dublin to London on RyanAir or EasyJet and London to Australia via Kuala Lumpur with AirAsia?

It is easy to do your own ticket now by booking separately with budget airlines, but you have to be sure in advance of your travel dates and make sure you book during an offer period! You won't be able to change dates with budget airlines so you have to be sure that your dates and route are what you want.
