Ive heard that there are huts for for rent on beatuiful beachs in thailand or near them.. and they are very basic but very cheap, can anyone elaborate on this? Where are they and how much do they cost etc??

Most of the cheap huts have been replaced by more upscale hotels & guesthouses allover Thailand. However, there are still some left on , , and around Krabi. I would head to Krabi town and then check with several travel shops. There are small that still cheap, quiet, away from the crowds. Some don't have websites but the travel shop will have photos of what they offer and prices. They just may have the perfect spot for you. Good luck with your planning.

Other TP members will chime in on some smaller islands or resorts that they like. I was going to include , but the huts are not cheap and are not on the beach. Some of the reviews were not encouraging either. It might be worth a look if you like to climb, otherwise I would day trip it only.
Just a note on Ton Sai after coming back from there. This place has a much better atmosphere than anywhere else I went in the Andaman area and was actually the cheapest. Not sure if the recession had anything to do with the fact but I was in a very large bungalow albeit NOT on the beach, at the end of November, for 500 baht a night including breakfast. This place was like a hotel and even had free WiFi. I went to stay on Phi Phi, Koh Lanta and even had 2 nights on Railay but Ton Sai kicked their ass. Great vibe going on in this place and highly recommended!!! Lots of things to do even if you are not into climbing, even more so if you are.
Also, there are bungalows just behind the beach but I was told the Thai government do not allow bungalow on any beach so as not to spoil the coatline and also for public safety (Tsunami).
