Hi there,
Last time we did this we went to Eigg, and to Skye, both of which are great. Skye has particularly spectacular rugged mountains.
I agree with the previous post, Skye is lovely. I'd also suggest the Shetlands, maybe Fair Isle? Are you going on your own or with friends?

Hi
I ve been on the islands of Coll, Bute, Skye Lewis and Harris. They re all on the westcoast.
Isle of Coll : There s no tree and the ferry leaves three times per week. There re 3 churches for 150 inhabitants, a pottery, grocery and several degeneratet houses. Ideal for birdwatching.
Isle of Bute : easy to reach from the mainland ( daytrip possible). The little town is tourist magnet.
Isle of Skye : wonderful mountains, straggly landscape and places
Isle of Lewis and Harris : Do not go there on sunday. It s a day for rest like 100 years ago. All sights and restaurants are closed. No bus goes. But you re invited to go to the church. The islands have nice beaches.
I traveled by public traffic with the "Freedom of Scotland Travelpass" from Scotrail. To use rail, all ferries of Caledonian Mac Brayne on the westcoast and buses.
I recommand the website : http://www.scotland-inverness.co.uk/ for further details to the scottish islands.
Skye is always a good choice. Iv been to Mull - very nice but also touristic.
Might wanna try Rum. Its very remote and rugged. I was there for a music festival years ago.
Shetland is great too. Was there for Uhhella ya
