Hey everybody,
Of course the connection between Santa Cruz de la Sierra and the Brazilian border (Corumbà) is possible by bus or by train. Once in Corumbà you will have buses straight to Rio de Janeiro. You don't have to change in Campo Grande. This buses pass in Campo Grande but you don't have to change.
Corumbà - Rio de Janeiro is a well known connection and I think the company that makes this trip is Andorrinha.
Good Luck and don't forget to visit the Pantanal area (and eventualy Bonito)
