Revisiting London

Hello there,

Hello There,

Set along the banks of the Thames, London is Europe's largest city, boasting more than 7 million inhabitants.

Even British cuisine has been rethought. Fish and chips and shepherd's pie keep a foot firmly planted in the past,

One of the most interesting attractions in all of England is the storied Tower of London, both a palace and a prison for English kings and queens for more than 500 years.

London is not meant to be seen by car, but on foot. Spend a leisurely day wandering the city away from its more celebrated tourist traps. Many of the city's hidden treasures lie off the beaten path – along narrow back streets, amid Victorian neighborhoods, and in quiet parks. You may explore you city breaks to London and check -snip-

Cheers

As you like art, if you'll be in London for the first Friday of August, you might like Late at the Tate. See the following link for details:

'Less touristy' covers a LOT of ground. You might be better off on specific London sites.

Getting out of London there's on the south coast, about an hour on the train.

As you are here in summer Id recommend visiting some of the green spaces outside of London, you can do some interesting walks in both Richmond and Bushey park (both have deer roaming wild)
Also Kew gardens, which is expensive- but lovely in all weather (as of course London summers are not too reliable!)
Also, check out riverside walks/cycles, its possible to travel alongside the river for quite a distance,
Summer is a great time to visit, as the atmosphere on hot days can be great.

London museums are some of the best, and lots are free- the ultimate is the British Museum, which you can re visit loads of times and not se everything.

I also love the V&A and random museums like the horniman, and the museum of brands can be interesting.
Galleries Id recommend are the tate britain and the national gallery, but it also worth checking out the smaller galleries if you are art fans, try...

is cool for finding random and interesting things to do in London.

Fingers crossed for some London sun!

Definitely agree that Brighton is worth a visit, on a sunny day its the lovliest place to be!

As you're here in the summer, you could also check out a festival....its the best of British culture! There's loads to choose from depending on what music you like, check em out on efestivals.co.uk off the top of my head, would recommend the Big Chill at beginning of august.

Brick Lane is a great place to check out in London, esp on a Sunday. Really lively, lots of art and markets, great buzz about the place, its one of my favourite places to go on the weekend.

Also check out the SouthBank Centre near Waterloo for some interesting exhibitions/plays/music. another great place to hang out on the weekend as its by the river and very lively. This summer there's also....wait for it....a giant upside down purple cow there called the udderbelly hosting really cool shows. you have to see it to believe it!! We went last year from a beatboxing show by beardyman, was brilliant!

Hey, as i see you want to visit many places. I know a lot of beautiful places, but it cost quit much if you want to go everywhere . Actually i know one good thing for all that you mention: museums, bike tours and others - there is London pass. You can buy it for one or few days, i have it for one day, it cost for me 39 £ but i have visited a lot of beautiful museums and gallerys, take a tour with boat.. so it was really great!! if you want it, you can watch for it, i bought it from internet -snip-. I haven't visited all places but the most beautiful for me are Churchill museum and Wetland. How long will you stay in London?

You've asked about shows too, so the Thriller - is one of the best musical wich i have saw, if it will be available definitely go there!
