You're planning to visit Okinawa.
I love there so much.
Snorkeling is so nice.
You can see tropical fish !!!!!
If you wanna enjoy night life too , you had better stay "Naha city" or "Chatan area".
Sea of northen part of Okinawa or little islands ( I love "Zamami" island in Kerama islands)
are more beautiful than "Naha city",
but this area , you cannot find bar....
The U.S. military on the islands are based on the middle of Okinawa island.
So huge area.
Some americans work in the U.S. military did bad things & sometimes we can read newspapers.....
but usually Okinawa is peace!!!!
You don't worry about that.
People in Okinawa is so nice & friendly. cozy.
& a little different to Japanese traditional culture.
It may be good experiences to you
I really love Okinawa.
I visit Okinawa almost every year !!!
Do you have a driver licence ?
You had better have it !! It is useful in Okinawa.
If you stay only Naha city.
You can enjoy without car.
& I think you can find cheap hostels easier.
See you

Oh , I've forgot to say.....
Okinawa has lots of typhoon between July and September.
See you.
In September 2007 the idea was to spend 3-4 days in Okinawa with daytrips to Zamami and Tokashiki islands for R&R and lots of snorkelling (these islands were great!!!). Lost of WWII things to see on Okinawa if interested, along with Shuri Castle which had to be rebuilt totally after the war.
We actually managed to buy the 7 day ferry pass from Okinawa to Kagoshima but a bloody typhoon came storming over Okinawa, all ferries were cancelled and we were stuck in Naha for 3 extra days before flying out to Miyazaki.
Can't recall seeing any US military personnel when we were there, but the place was chocka with young Tokyoites down for a fun holiday.
Gotta try the Okinawa soba if you get there.
I have a photo of a cheap hostel at the back of Naha beach which was advertising accomodation for around $10 USD per night.
As for nightlife, there seemed to be heaps of drinking places along kokusai-dori (the main drag of Naha).
Enjoy
Hullo,
Thanks guys. You've been really helpful. We're not gonna go Okinawa, a tad too expensive for us right now. But, I am definitely gonna go there someday.
Take care.
Fredrik
