Heyyy! My friend and I will be traveling throughout asia and I just finished the Indonesia part of it... any comments/suggestions would be fabulous!
Ubud is well worth 3-4 days as it's a nice place to hang out for a while and there are some pleasant day trips you can do from there.

Kuta to Denpasar is very close. Maybe you meant you will use a taxi instead of bus.
As far as I know, Bali doesn't operate local public bus. You also can rent a car or motorbike.
Depending on season type (peak or off peak), you can bargain a lot on rental-car price.
As for Lombok, Rinjani is located in main Lombok island. What you can see in Mataram are including
of waterfall, culture villages and several beautiful beaches. But again, I recommend you to rent a car or
motorbike.
If you should have enough time to explore around Lombok island, exploring Gili islands is mostly recommended.

As far as I know, Bali doesn't operate local public bus.
Of course there are public (mini)buses in Bali, but you don't have to go to the terminals, because there they want you to charter the whole bus...

maybe i'll cut out some days and spend more in ubud.
just curious, has anyone done mount rinjani? i'm kind of a sucker for hot springs, but if its not all that worth three whole days of trekking then i might cut it out.
Agree its probably best to get a taxi from Kuta to Denpasar and you must spend at least 2/3 days in Ubud as its an amazing little town with quite alot to do including Monkey Forest and lots of cheap Spa's.
Highly recommend the Gili Islands, lots to do and see including great scuba / snorkling trips where you will be able to see sea turtles and great coral.
A quick word of warning, the Mount Rinjani trek, is nothing but easy. Do not underestimate this climb as it is to-date the most physically demanding thing my girlfriend and I have done!! we did the 2 day / 1 night trek and thought that was enough. I have heard the the 3 day trip is alot alot harder!! Just a heads up!!

I was wondering if there are any other highlights that people recommend other than those already mentioned and is a week a decent amount of time to spend there?
I was also considering a trip Lombok but that mountain climb sounds a bit too full-on and I'm not a strong swimmer so I don't fancy diving, so anyway is it still worth visiting if you're not into climbing and diving?
