Hello everyone, I've made a general post for my tour here:
http://www.travellerspoint.com/forum.cfm?thread=72278
But something that I specifically wanted to know is:
Can you travel from Russia to China through the little gap between Kazakhstan and Mongolia? There's a small connection between Russia & China, which would save me going through other countries. I checked some maps and realised that there's no main roads going through there and that the areas seems to be quite hilly, if not to say that there's a mountain range. The maps I used didn't really tell me if it is was actually possible to make it over the border there, so I was wondering if you guys might know.
Best regards,
Niklas
I think I read somewhere that there's no way through - it's either Kazakhstan or Mongolia. But that's no help to you really.
I know it's early days but, have you thought of using gps? Reason I ask is, there's a bunch of people who know parts of that area who can give you 'way-points' to places that even most Russians won't know of. There are different maps available but many are unreliable - though Stanfords in London would be a good start, so maybe worth a trip.
Anyway - pm sent with links. Hope it helps.

Thanks a bunch! The GPS-idea kinda sounds like my cup of tea, I'll look into that. Will also check out the links you sent me. Much appreciated!

I just want to remind you about the Tibet Travel Permit. You'd better prepare it at least 10 to 15 days in advance. And when you apply it,you must report your route and guide to the Travel Bureau.Anyone cannot do activities without accompanyment with the professional guide. If you need more information, you can contact me.
