GoBus tours of Egypt

I'm going to Egypt next year for a few weeks and I wanted to book a tour to take the hassle out of getting around on my own so I was wondering if anyone has used any cheap tour companies in Egypt which they would recommend.

Egypt is relatively easy to travel in and price levels are very cheap.

The tour is only a good deal if meals, entry fees and full board are included in the price of 329 pounds. If it is just the tour and you still have to pay for everything else the 329 pounds are a tad overpriced. Not as overpriced as some tours in Egypt generally are, but not the bargain it looks.

Doing it on your own and on a budget you are going to spend around 20 pounds per day and person, so 280 UK pounds for transport, food, accommodation, entry fees, etc. The tour costs 329 pounds, so I would not take it unless all food, accomodation and entry fees were included.

Hi there,

GoBus is run by On The Go which have great tours in Egypt and have been a round for quite a few years now. They use local transport and local Guides and I have always had good feedback about their trips.

You could also check out Oasis Overland (who have a great 10 and 14 day trip which also includes entry fees to major sites), or Imaginative Traveller - both run budget trips of varying length with good results.

I agree with t_maia that it is easy enough to travel around by yourself. For 5 years I did the same thing, however it may not always end up cheaper than a organized tour as the tours make use of better group accommodation rates and have deals with accommodation/restaurants for return business etc etc. keeping your pp costs lower. Then of course you have to try not to get the 'tourist price' for everything. I have found that getting a 'runner' (based at your accommodation of choice) to go and collect tickets for you for the trains/busses etc means you will only pay the real price plus a tip for the ticket as opposed to a marked-up-cos-you-don't-read-arabic-numbers price. Worked well for me - just make sure you tell them exactly which bus/train/type of ticket you want so you don't end up in 4th class sitting on a crate.

Whatever you do you will have a blast! Every time I go back to Egypt I leave more amazed than last time!

Cheers, Tania
