French Euronight trains operate under the brand Lunéa. You can book tickets . If you're able to pay by credit card, I don't think there's any need to travel to Vienna.
Tickets seem to start at €75, but I didn't follow through the reservation to check for hidden costs.

When I selected Hungary as a residence, it redirected me to http://www.tgv-europe.com/ . That website is good since they have an English section and works except one thing: It seems they only sell "bundled tickets" through the website (which means: ticket+reservation which is 74 €), so unfortunately it's not possible to buy a separate reservation here which I'd need.

This is tricky. I seem to remember that French SNCF (as well as Belgian B-rail) does not participate in Die Bahn's ticketing services, unlike many other national railways including ÖBB.
So you might want to before going down there; I have this feeling they won't be able to help you either.
Ah thank you, I haven't found an e-mail contact form for them when I visited the ÖBB website (probably because I was trying the English version or don't know..). Now I wrote them an e-mail, I hope they won't hate me for writing in English and they send me a reply
Edit/Note: I work for the Hungarian State Railways, so we are eiglible for a free ticket to most European countries. That's what makes our travell organizing harder, since it's easy to apply for our tickets, but once you have that ticket, it's not easy to buy an abroad reservation...
